Relationships are so dicey hence I shy away from issues arising from this. These guys are not perfect and perhaps go through the stressful phases of life just like anybody else. Jada Pinkett Smith’s marital union with Will Smith has been a testament to strong black love over the years. This has been admired by many people (both the young and the old) in recent times. Their names have been used in songs and books across the globe. To top it all off, they are blessed with two children who have carved a niche for themselves from the already-set trail by their parents.
Jada recently released a memoir called “Worthy” detailing her life struggles, marriage misconceptions, and ways of dealing with complex relationship situations. This was one for the books and attracted widespread appreciation, especially from the online communities. She was lauded mostly for her bravery and being able to document them in the letter. Her husband, Will was thrown at the center of all her glory when NBC and PEOPLE interviewed her about the book. This was supposed to be her moment but ended up being a tense questionnaire session for her.
After revealing that she had been separated from her husband Will since 2016, she seemed to have touched many people shockingly. One question that stuck in the minds of these people was “Why were they hiding it from the media?”. Many even wondered why she was making appearances with Will at major events like the Oscars when they could not stand each other. Well, this is what I think could have led to them showing up up despite their differences as far as 2016. Kids are involved and the decision of splitting would have had a toll on them if the news had gone off the roof.
Others wondered if they doing it for public attention or if they missed each other’s company through their differences and decided to show up at these events together. This again is no rocket science, in the sense that if an event organizer books both of them to grace their occasion, why won’t they show up as a couple? recall them showing up at book launches, award ceremonies, and even on movie sets. One thing was made clear though, and that was “They have not been living together”.As these assumptions and questions were being asked, one thing struck my mind. So what was the Oscar outrage and slap by Will to his long-time comedic friend Chris Rock all about if they were separated for years?
Again, knowing the ins and outs of the entertainment space over the last decade in America, there was a huge frustration in the heart of Will mostly because he is “the man” hence should bottle every bit of emotion up whether good or bad. This was not the case for him on the night thus what in my opinion many saw was a frustrated man who felt his marriage had fallen apart and wanted to revive it. Others say he wanted to impress his wife but let us think this through for a second, he showed up for her at just the wrong time and kept the energy up throughout the night. This man had the internet on his neck hence I understood his frustration but never commended his behavior. So after watching his mostly criticized apology on YouTube, I must say I understood him better but still felt sad about how broken he will forever be many years from now when the world and even generations yet unborn catch a glimpse of it.
I would not want any split because whatever the situation is and maybe, they are best So back to the main point of this post, the Oscar incident is still talked about today but is left behind closed doors leaving many to ponder. Lots of sports pundits in the industry like Shaq O’nealle, to comedic giants like Dave Chappelle, Kevin Hart, and Aries Spears, have all had a say in this. Jada and Will still love each other but to many fans and critics, there was no love found between them that all along they had been saving themselves from the media’s constant intrusion into their home. They are a powerful couple hence more of this should be expected from them but the truth should be told this is their business hence they needed to be respected however Will’s gush of emotion brought all this to the public eye. One thing is for certain though as of 2024. They are still together.
